The washing machine is an essential appliance in a modern home. After a certain period of use, a lot of bacteria and dirt accumulate. Therefore, regular cleaning is necessary to keep your clothes clean and odor-free.
Find and use the hidden switch
Some washing machines have a « hidden switch » that you need to press to allow the dirty water to drain.
This part is usually located in the lower right corner of the washing machine, with a small cover on top. Press lightly to open the top cover. This is where the machine’s sediment filter is located.
Before opening the sediment filter cover, place a cloth underneath to prevent residual dirty water from escaping and dirtying the floor. Remove the filter bag by gently twisting it and then pulling it out.
Clean the filter with a brush to remove dirt and detergent residue.
Check the filter compartment in the machine and wipe it with a damp cloth before replacing the filter.
Differences by machine type
Usually, the filter located under the machine housing is intended for front-loading washing machines. In top-loading machines, the sediment filter is in the form of a plastic bag or tray that sits directly in the washing drum.
Cleaning Frequency
To ensure that the filter remains clean, you should clean the washing machine dirt filter at least every 3 months.
Easy method to clean the washing machine
For modern machines, you can easily choose the self-cleaning mode. Select this mode and the machine will automatically adjust the amount of water, temperature, and drum cleaning time.
If the machine doesn’t have this mode, choose a regular wash cycle (without putting clothes in the machine). To clean the drum, use commercial drum cleaning tablets/powders or replace them with vinegar.
When cleaning the drum, also pay attention to the rubber seal on the washing machine door (for front-loading surfaces). Clean this part to ensure all dirt is removed.
