It’s ‘Mama’s Magic Loaf,’ packed with flavor and somehow always better the next day (if there’s any left)

Southern-style meatloaf is a comforting classic that’s perfect for family dinners. This dish has its roots in Southern hospitality, where hearty meals bring people together. It’s a great choice for anyone looking to serve a warm, satisfying meal that fills the kitchen with the aroma of home-cooked goodness. The blend of spices and the tangy glaze make this meatloaf a favorite for both kids and adults.
This meatloaf pairs beautifully with creamy mashed potatoes and green beans for a traditional Southern meal. You might also consider serving it with a side of cornbread or a fresh garden salad to add some crunch and color to your plate. A dollop of homemade coleslaw can also add a refreshing contrast to the rich flavors of the meatloaf.

Ingredients
1 1/2 pounds ground beef
1/2 cup finely chopped onion
1/2 cup finely chopped green bell pepper
1 cup breadcrumbs
2 eggs, lightly beaten
1/2 cup milk
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional for a bit of heat)
1/2 cup ketchup
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1 tablespoon mustard
Directions
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, chopped onion, chopped bell pepper, and breadcrumbs.
Add the beaten eggs, milk, Worcestershire sauce, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and cayenne pepper. Mix everything together until well combined.

Transfer the meat mixture to a loaf pan and shape it into a loaf.
In a small bowl, mix together the ketchup, brown sugar, and mustard. Spread this glaze evenly over the top of the meatloaf.
Bake in the preheated oven for about 1 hour, or until the meatloaf is cooked through and the internal temperature reaches 160°F (70°C).

Let the meatloaf rest for a few minutes before slicing and serving.
Variations & Tips
For a twist, you can use a mix of ground beef and pork for a richer flavor. If you have picky eaters, try adding some shredded carrots or zucchini for extra nutrition without altering the taste much. For a gluten-free version, use gluten-free breadcrumbs. You can also experiment with different glazes, such as using barbecue sauce instead of ketchup for a smoky flavor.
